ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT STERILIZATION

UV Sterilisation

Ultraviolet light sterilization, also known as Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation, is a long-known method of disinfection. Three types of Ultraviolet rays, UV-A, B and C are emitted by the sun. UV-A and B rays reach the earth’s surface, best known for the fact that they cause sunburn. Ultraviolet type C or UV-C is trapped in the ozone layer and never reaches earth’s surface. Fortunately, special neon globes can produce UV-C which are able to be used for medical sterilization, and we have installed these in all Jackpersad and Partners Xray departments.

UV-C rays kill 99.99% of Corona viruses by breaking down their genetic structure (DNA and RNA). This includes the SARS-CoV-2 virus or Corona Virus as most people know it.

UV-C sterilization is endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a method of disinfecting surfaces in the current pandemic.

Jackpersad and Patners has introduced mobile and MRI scanner compatible 55W UV-C units in all our venues to aid in maintaining sterility of all imaging rooms and equipment. We have purchased a dedicated UVC measuring device in order to accurately measure the amount of UVC energy we are using to ensure that effective virus destruction occurs.

Regular sterilizing occurs throughout the day and all equipment is first cleaned with a chlorine-based disinfectant, followed by 70% alcohol wipes. The UV-C light is then activated in the room to further disinfect all surfaces. This process takes less than 10 minutes to complete and absolute sterility is ensured. The rooms are briefly closed during UV-C sterilization. This process of sterilization is much quicker than the conventional cleaning process which entails manual cleaning with 4 different processes, thus reducing patient waiting times to the minimum possible without compromising safety.  Better. Quicker. Cleaner. Safer.

Jackpersad is committed to both our staff and our patient’s safety.
