-
A CT Coronary examination is a non-invasive procedure to demonstrate the coronary arteries that supply the muscles of the heart.
- An iodine based contrast media is injected intravenously in the arm which opacifies the coronary arteries. Patients are required to starve for at least 3 hours prior to the procedure.
- This procedure is used in early detection of heart disease.
- The examination can be done on an outpatient basis.
Purpose
The heart scan is a simple non-invasive, painless procedure used for early detection of heart disease.
Multiple images of the heart will be acquired, with millisecond slices, between each heart beat while the heart muscle is at rest.
A radiologist will interpret these images to determine the degree of narrowing of the arteries. He/she will also ascertain the amount of any calcified plaque present in the arteries.
NB: Patients Must Bring Old X-Rays and scans for all procedures! |
